(KAKE) – Many viewers have called KAKE news lately about an increase in trash along the highways in Wichita. One local man has decided to clean up the mess, but could use the help of others.

“Oh my goodness! Wichita has a really bad trash problem. Like, everywhere you look is trash,” said volunteer Sarah Derome.

Sher Randhir of Clean-Up Wichita agrees.

“Driving along, noticing the trash, I just decided to do something about it.”

Unlike many problems, debris along the highway was something Randhir thought he could help to fix. He set up a group on Facebook called “Clean-Up Wichita.” He got donations for supplies and organized friends to come out along I-235 on Sunday to begin picking up.

The trash isn’t just ugly. The EPA says when the garbage gets into the water it can kill local wildlife and release toxins into the public’s drinking water.
